In the region where Yurts originated, there are quite a few interesting customs, traditions and etiquette that surrounds erecting and using a Yurt, for example the traditional Mongolian yurt is pitched on the ground, the ground is not dug to erect the poles like you will expect because they consider the ground sacred, to dig it up would be defiling and disturbing it.
