Yurt Making
We use green ash for the frames and roof wheels and either oak or pine for the doors. All the timber is sourced from sustainable forests and all the wood is hand-finished. The frames and wheels are oiled with organic linseed oil and the oak doors are finished with organic walnut oil. Our canvas is made from high quality 12 oz cotton that has been treated to be waterproof, rot proof and fire retardant. Our yurt covers are tailor made to each individual yurt frame to give a lovely snug finish. We go to this trouble because we are perfectionists and, because of the hand made nature of our yurts, no two frames are the same. We can fit pvc windows into the yurt wall canvas – round, square, love hearts, stars whatever you like! The ash is steamed and bent to form the individual, organic shape of each yurt, so each cover needs to be tailor-made and fitted to the frame to give a clean, tight finish, like a hand in a glove. The heavy duty pvc groundsheet can be supplemented with either a fitted jute carpet or a coir-sisal fitted mat. We offer a range of doors from the basic square to a rounded top version, a new design which blends beautifully with the curving roof line of the yurt. Both are available in either pine or oak. All of our doors come with hand-forged hinges, thumb latches and fitted mortice lock. Doors can also come fitted with a bull's eye window. |
